Directions to Memorial Library

Memorial Library, 728 State Street, is located at the corner of Lake and Langdon Street in the heart of downtown Madison.

Directions from out of town:

From the North or East
  1. Take I 90/94 (if coming from the north) or I 94 (if coming from the east) to Highway 30
  2. From Highway 30 take Highway 151 (State Capitol exit)
  3. Continue to the Capitol Square, turn right and go 2 blocks.
  4. At the second stop light, turn right onto Wisconsin Ave.
  5. Go two blocks and turn left onto Gorham Street (one-way)
  6. Gorham will turn into University Ave, stay right.
  7. Turn right onto Lake Street.
  8. Park at the Lake Street Ramp.
From the South or West
  1. Take I 90 (if coming from the south) or 151 (if coming from the west) to Hwy. 12 & 18
  2. From 12 & 18 take the Park Street exit.
  3. Travel north onto Park Street until Johnson Street (about 8 miles). Turn right on Johnson Street.
  4. Continue on Johnson for 2 blocks, and then turn left onto Lake.
  5. Park at the Lake Street Ramp.


The closest municipal parking lot is the State Street Campus Garage. When exiting the parking lot on Lake Street, turn right and walk until you come to where State Street turns into a pedestrian mall. Turn left into the mall and the library will be situated on the right-hand side. The main entrance to the library can be found on the State Street Mall side of the building, directly across from the University Bookstore.

  • Helen C. White Hall (2-hour meters)
  • Fluno Center, lower level (attendant)
  • Grainger Hall, lower level (2-hour meters)

Note: There is also street parking on Langdon Street and Lake Street. However, it is very limited and meters are strictly enforced. So be sure to have enough change with you.
